President Karzai: Pakistan Detains More than 1000 Afghan Refugees

According to media reports, the government of Pakistan has detained and imprisoned about 1,100 Afghan refugees, including women and children, in the Sindh province of that country, says Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, via a tweet posted on his Twitter page today Monday, November 07.

Hamid Karzai expressed his concern over this treatment of the Pakistani government with the Afghan refugees and asked that the country authorities deal and treat with the Afghan refugees “according to international laws and human rights and to be a good neighbouring country for Afghans.”

He has also asked the United Nations and human rights organizations to try to provide better livelihoods for Afghan refugees in Pakistan and advocate for their rights.

Yet, the Pakistani authorities have not said anything in this regard. In the past, Pakistani police arrested Afghan refugees several times. In some cases, a lack of proper document has been reported as the reason for the arrest.
