KabulNow is an online newspaper affiliated with the Etilaatroz. Based in the United States, covers South-Central Asia and the Middle East. The paper spent its early years of formation in Kabul, Afghanistan, where it got its name. After the political crisis of 2021 that sent the main chunk of Afghanistan’s intellectual community and professional capital to exile, KabulNow found a new base in Silver Spring, Maryland.
In an age of division, misinformation, and nationalism, our objective is to bring nuance and depth to conversations that impact people’s lives. We are committed to these regions’ rich history of social tolerance, political pluralism, and cultural creativity. As the free space for dissent, independent journalism, and pluralistic discourses continues to shrink, we are committed to giving voice and agency to people across the region.
Our coverage tries to unpack the complexity of life in South-Central Asia and the Middle East. In so doing, we focus on trends that shape human life. Climate change, the rise in authoritarianism and the decline of free space, displacement and mobility are some of the key issues we prioritize. We publish materials in a variety of formats that range from our reporting to those that enable observers, experts, and our audience to contribute.
We operate from a small headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland, with a presence in Canada and a small newsroom in Pakistan. We actively explore avenues to expand our presence in the region.
