KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man was killed, and two other civilians were wounded in the latest rocket attacks by Pakistani forces in Afghanistan’s eastern Paktika province, Taliban authorities said, as the two sides again clashed near the border.
In a statement, the Taliban police command in Paktika said Pakistani forces targeted civilian homes in the village of Sordagh in Shkin district at around 3 p.m. local time on Sunday, November 1.
The attack killed a young man and wounded two other civilians, according to the statement, which added that several civilian homes were also damaged.
Pakistani officials have not commented on the reported attacks.
Earlier on Sunday, clashes were reported between Taliban forces and Pakistani troops near the Torkham border crossing in eastern Nangarhar province, according to local sources.
The two sides also clashed in Torkham several days ago. Two children were killed in that incident, according to Taliban authorities.
The violence marks the latest escalation in tensions between the two sides over security and cross-border militancy. Islamabad accuses the Taliban authorities of allowing fighters from Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and other militant groups to use Afghan territory to plan and launch attacks inside Pakistan. The Taliban deny the allegations.
Pakistan has experienced a surge in militant attacks in recent years, particularly in areas bordering Afghanistan.
Cross-border violence has intensified since late last year. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has documented more than 1,700 civilian deaths and injuries resulting from cross-border armed violence in Afghanistan between October 2025 and September 2026.
Despite mediation efforts by countries including China, Russia, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, the two sides have yet to reach an agreement to end the hostilities.
