1. Our Commitment

KabulNow, a Maryland-registered non-profit and subsidiary of Etilaatroz, provides independent journalism. We adhere to a “Data Minimization” philosophy: we only collect what is essential to deliver news and process your support.

2. Information We Collect & How We Use It

  • Payments (Stripe): For one-time donations and recurring subscriptions, your payment details (card number, CVV) are processed directly by Stripe. KabulNow does not store your full financial credentials on our servers. We only see the last four digits of your card and your billing contact info for tax-deductible receipting.
  • Analytics (Google Analytics): We use Google Analytics to understand site traffic and improve our reporting. This collects “de-identified” data like your browser type, city-level location, and which articles you read.
  • Newsletter: We collect your email address to send newsletters. You can opt out at any time via the “Unsubscribe” link in any email.

3. Cookies and Tracking

We use cookies to keep you logged in and to help Google Analytics function.

  • Your Choice: You can set your browser to refuse cookies, though this may prevent you from accessing your subscriber-only content via the login page.
  • Do Not Track: We honor “Do Not Track” signals and similar opt-out mechanisms as required by Maryland law.

4. Third-Party Disclosures

We do not sell your data. We only share information with:

  • Stripe: To process your financial support.
  • Google: To analyze website performance.

5. Data Retention

While we do not “explicitly” store data longer than necessary, please note:

  • Financial Records: Federal law requires that records of donations and subscriptions be maintained for tax and audit purposes for a minimum of 7 years.
  • Account Data: We retain your email as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, this data is purged from our active systems.

6. Your Maryland Privacy Rights (MODPA)

As a Maryland resident or user of a Maryland-based entity, you have the right to:

  1. Confirm if we are processing your data.
  2. Obtain a copy of your data in a portable format.
  3. Request the deletion of your personal data.
  4. Opt-out of targeted advertising (KabulNow does not currently perform targeted third-party advertising).
