Unknown gunmen shot dead senior government worker in Kabul

Arefullah Aref, the head of the policy and planning department at the Ministry of Urban Development and Land (MUDL), was shot dead in Kabul, a security source said.

Ferdaws Faramarz, the spokesperson for Kabul Police, said the incident took place on Sunday, May 30, in Niaz Beig area of PD5 in Kabul.

The unknown armed men also wounded another person called Abdul Raziq, in the same area, he added.

An investigation is underway by a joint team.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

This is while target killings in Afghanistan especially in Kabul have significantly increased creating an atmosphere of fear for Kabul residents.

Though most targeted killings remain unclaimed the Afghan security and intelligence officials blame the Taliban for targeted violence.
