At Least Five Killed, Several Injured in Suicide Attack in Kunduz

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A suicide attack in northeastern Afghanistan killed at least five people and wounded several others, according to Taliban police.

The attack occurred around 8:35 AM on Tuesday near a Kabul Bank branch in Kunduz province, said Jumauddin Khaksar, spokesman for the Taliban’s Kunduz police.

Witnesses say the explosion took place as Taliban forces were at the bank to collect their salaries.

Khaksar confirmed that five people, including Taliban members and civilians, were killed and seven others were injured. However, unofficial sources report a higher death toll.

Information shared in Taliban communication groups suggests at least 20 people may have died in the explosion.

One member stated that employees of the group’s Ministry of Defense were receiving their salaries when the attack occurred, claiming that 20 Taliban members were killed and 12 injured, along with four civilian casualties.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The bombing coincides with a warning issued by the Taliban to its forces about visiting the bank to collect their salaries.
