Bangladesh beats Afghanistan by 89 runs to qualify for Asia Cup Super Four

Bangladesh made a solid comeback after defeating Afghanistan by 89 runs in its second Asia Cup 2023 match in Lahore on Sunday.

In its first match against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh endured a mashing defeat, making this match a must-win for them.

This win means that the Bangladeshi team qualified for the Super Four stage, but the Tuesday match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will decide whether they will go through as group champions or runners-up.

Bangladesh batted first against Afghanistan in Sunday’s match, piling a massive 334/5 in 50 overs.

In response, Afghanistan could only manage to make 245 runs in 44.3 overs.

To stay in contention, Afghanistan would need to beat Sri Lanka by a big margin in its next match on Tuesday to make the Super Fours.

The Asia Cup 2023 is an international tournament announced by the International Cricket Council in 2009. Pakistan is hosting the tournament of the Asia Cup this year, which began on August 30, 2023.
