Taliban releases two journalists after three weeks of captivity

The Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) reported on Thursday that the Taliban released two journalists, Faqir Mohammad Faqirzai and Janagha Saleh, who were arrested from Nangarhar province three weeks ago.

In a statement on Thursday, AFJC stated that the journalists were released from the Taliban prison in Kabul on Thursday. The Taliban have not yet commented on their release, and it is not clear under what conditions they were released.

According to AFJC, the Taliban arrested the two journalists on charges of cooperating with “banned media outlets.”

The AFJC welcomed the release of the two journalists but urged the Taliban to immediately release other journalists who are still in custody.

According to the AFJC, at least 10 journalists and media workers are currently in Taliban prisons.
