Three Taliban members at Abu Ali Sina-e-Balkhi Hospital in the northern Balkh province subjected a midwife to severe physical assault following the death of one of their children, local sources reported.
The midwife, identified as Laila Naqeeb, serves in the obstetrics and gynecology department of the hospital. According to sources among the hospital’s doctors, the Taliban members attacked the midwife last week, blaming her for the child’s death through an injection.
The father of the deceased child, along with two other Taliban members, assaulted the midwife by striking her head and nose with the butts of their guns.
After being hospitalized for two days, the midwife is currently receiving treatment at home.
The Taliban officials have not yet commented on the incident.
There have been reports of mistreatment and humiliation of doctors and health workers by the Taliban in Balkh province. Medical professionals have raised concerns about the behavior of Taliban members toward health workers.
