The Taliban in the city of Nili, the capital of the central Daikundi province, has been coercing people into celebrating Eid on Friday.
A resident in Nili told KabulNow that the group’s security forces gathered tens of people from across the city and forced them to break their fast.

“No one has been celebrating Eid today, but the Taliban forced many to break their fast and offer Eid prayers,” the resident said. And those who objected were beaten up, the resident added.
The Taliban’s Supreme Court declared Friday as Eid, but with Nili being predominantly populated by the Shia Hazaras, they were due to celebrate Saturday as Eid.
