As many as 14 members of People’s Uprising Force, a pro-government militia, were killed and eight others wounded after Afghan Air Force conducted an airstrike in Kohistan district of Badakhshan province, local sources confirmed.
The incident took place today, Saturday, June 05, around 12:00 AM in Kohistan village of the district with the same name, according to Mahbub ur Rahman Talaat, a member of Provincial Council.
Five of the wounded are in a critical health condition, he added.
The local official emphasized that the reason why the pro-government militia was targeted in the airstrike is not clear.
Abdul Hadi Nazari, spokesperson for the 217 Pamir Corps, however, said that the airstrikes targeted the Taliban’s position which was verified beforehand.
Located in northeast of the country, Badakhshan is a volatile province, where the Taliban control swathes of territories.
