KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – An armed anti-Taliban group says that in a “rocket attack” carried out by its forces on a Taliban outpost in Tala wa Barfak district of Baghlan province, four members of the group were killed and two others were injured.
In a statement, the group said that the attack took place at around 2:00 a.m. on Sunday (April 12) on an outpost located near the district administration building in Tala wa Barfak.
The armed anti-Taliban group did not provide any information regarding possible casualties among its own forces in this attack.
Local Taliban officials in Baghlan have not yet commented on the incident.
The armed anti-Taliban group has previously also reported multiple attacks against Taliban in Baghlan.
Similarly, the armed anti-Taliban group claimed responsibility for an attack in Kabul, saying its fighters targeted a Ranger vehicle carrying Taliban members in the Alokhil area of the 16th district around 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11. The group stated that two Taliban members were killed and two others were wounded in the incident, and that the vehicle was destroyed during the attack. It did not provide any information about possible casualties among its own fighters.
This development comes amid ongoing security tensions in Afghanistan, which continue alongside broader regional instability and economic pressure linked to rising fuel prices and the wider Iran–United States–Israel conflict affecting the region.
Following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, many opposition armed groups were formed, with two still actively fighting the Taliban in various provinces. The NRF and AFF, largely composed of former ANDSF members, have been particularly active in Kabul city and the northern regions of the country.
In addition, the AFF was formed in the aftermath of the Taliban’s return to power in 2021 and is led by General Yasin Zia, the former Chief of Staff of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF). Composed largely of former ANDSF personnel, the group has been active in launching attacks against the Taliban, particularly in Panjshir, Kabul, Balkh, and surrounding areas
