Afghanistan Freedom Front Claims Responsibility for Explosion in Maimana

The Afghanistan Freedom Front has claimed responsibility for an explosion that occurred on Thursday evening (January 1) at the premises of a Taliban court in Maimana, the capital of Faryab province, local sources say.

In a statement, the group said its forces carried out a rocket attack targeting the building of the Taliban’s Appeal Court. However, local sources in Faryab told reporters that the blast was caused by an explosive device planted inside a rubbish bin.

The Afghanistan Freedom Front claimed that four Taliban members were killed and two others wounded in the attack.

Local sources, however, confirmed that one Taliban member was injured and that a Taliban ranger vehicle was damaged. Taliban local officials in Faryab have not commented on the incident.

Earlier, local sources had reported that an explosion took place at around 6:30pm inside the compound of the Taliban’s city court in Maimana. At the time, no information was available regarding the cause of the explosion or possible casualties.
