Man Kills His Wife’s Parents in Eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources in Nuristan province report that a man has shot and killed his wife’s father and mother following a dispute over family matters.

According to the sources, the incident took place on Monday in the village of Sharudmi in Nuristan’s Du Ab district.

The sources said the man’s wife had visited her parents’ home, but her father and mother reportedly tried to prevent her from returning to her husband’s house. A verbal argument broke out between the man and his father-in-law over the situation. The disagreement escalated, and the man allegedly opened fire, killing both his father-in-law and mother-in-law.

The identities of the victims and the suspect have not been disclosed, and further details about the circumstances surrounding the killings remain unclear.

Local Taliban authorities in Nuristan have not yet commented on the killings.

In recent months, incidents of family-related killings and other violent crimes have been on the rise across Afghanistan. Just in the past two days, at least five people have been killed in separate incidents in Herat, Helmand, and Kandahar provinces, underscoring a wider trend of domestic violence and insecurity.
