Suicide Attack in Kabul Kills One, Injures Three

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A suicide bombing in Kabul on Thursday has left one person dead and three others injured.

The attack occurred near the Taliban’s Ministry of Urban Development and Housing. Taliban spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani stated that the attacker attempted to enter the ministry but was shot and killed by Taliban forces before causing further destruction.

Despite the intervention, the explosives detonated, resulting in one fatality and three injuries.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Islamic State in Khorasan (IS-K), an affiliate of ISIS, has been behind numerous similar attacks in the country since the Taliban regained power in 2021.

This bombing marks the second suicide attack this week. On Tuesday, a suicide bombing outside a bank in northeastern Afghanistan—later claimed by IS-K—resulted in at least five deaths.

While the Taliban claims to have dismantled IS-K, the group continues to carry out attacks, particularly targeting Shia Hazaras and Sufis.

IS-K has also carried out high-profile attacks against Taliban members, including last year’s bombing that killed Khalil Rehman Haqqani, the Taliban’s Minister for Refugees and Repatriation.
