Local media in central Daykundi province have reported that two individuals were killed in separate incidents in the province on Wednesday.
In the first incident, a 38-year-old man was shot and killed in front of his family in the capital city of Daykundi. The man, Mohammad Isa, was originally from Pato district and was currently residing in Kohnadeh village.
Taliban security officials in Daykundi confirmed the incident but did not provide more details. However, local sources have said that two people have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the murder.
In another incident, a 40-year-old woman was killed by unknown gunmen in Kijran district. Local Taliban security officials said that the perpetrator of the incident escaped from the area and efforts are underway to arrest him.
The motives for the killings are not yet known. However, the Taliban has said that they are investigating the incidents.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of maintaining security across Afghanistan, the country has experienced a surge in targeted and mysterious killings, particularly in the northern and central provinces, since the group’s takeover of Afghanistan.
