Unknown gunmen shot and killed a former soldier in Hesa II district of northeastern Kapisa province on Friday, local sources reported.
The victim, identified as Jamil Qudosi, was a police officer in the previous government. He was killed at around 12:00 pm while he was heading to the mosque for Friday prayers.
Local sources told KabulNow that Qudosi was a resident of Qorbankhel village in Hesa II district.
The motive behind his murder is unknown and the perpetrators have not been identified.
This is the second mysterious killing in the district today. Earlier in the morning, local sources reported that unknown gunmen shot and killed the head of a religious school in Hesa II district.
The local authorities of the Taliban in Kapisa province have not commented on either murder.
Since the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan in August 2021, the group has been widely accused of arresting, torturing, and killing former soldiers and employees of the previous government. However, the group has always denied the accusations.
Human rights organizations have criticized the Taliban for these actions, calling on the group to respect the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including former government soldiers.
The incident is the latest in a series of targeted killings that have taken place in Afghanistan since the group regained control of the country. The situation has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of citizens across the country.
