Local sources in northeastern Kapisa province have reported that unidentified gunmen shot and killed the head of a religious school in Hesa II district of the province on Friday morning.
The victim, Qari Ghulam Farooq, was a 50-year-old former member of Hizb-e Islami, a political party led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.
According to sources, he had no known enemies and the motive for his murder is unclear.
Local Taliban officials have not yet commented on the incident.
The incident is the latest in a series of targeted killings that have taken place in Afghanistan since the Taliban regained control of the country in August 2021. The situation has raised serious concerns about the safety and security of citizens across the country.
