Two school girls kidnapped and raped in Herat province

Two school girls, aged 11 and 13, were kidnapped on their way to school on Monday morning in the Payin Aab area of western Herat province. They were later found raped in the Pashtun Pal area of the city.

The girls were taken to the district hospital for treatment and discharged after a few hours.

The girls’ families have confirmed that they were raped. It is not clear if the two girls are related.

Taliban officials in the province have not commented on the incident.

Two months earlier, a five-year-old girl was reportedly raped by a cleric in the Shaydaie area of Herat city. The incident was confirmed by an anonymous health official.
