Shahbaz Sharif appoints new special envoy for Afghanistan amid political turmoil

The Pakistani Prime Minister, Shahbaz Sharif, has appointed Asif Ali Durrani as Special Representative on Afghanistan.

A former ambassador to Iran, Asif Ali Durrani served as Pakistan’s deputy ambassador in Kabul between 2005 to 2009.

In March, Muhammad Sadiq, resigned as Pakistan’s Special Representative on Afghanistan.

Asif Ali Durban’s appointment comes at a time of political turmoil in Pakistan and its increasingly uneasy relationship with the Taliban, who has been accused of giving sanctuary to Pakistani Taliban (TTP).
