Former army soldier shot dead by unknown gunmen in Mazar-i-Sharif

Sources have confirmed to KabulNow that a former army soldier was shot dead by unknown gunmen on Sunday night in front of his family, including two young children, at his home in the city of Mazar-i-Sharif, which is the capital of Balkh province.

The victim, identified as Sayed Khudadad, according to a source had his house searched by the Taliban several times. He had been working at a coal mine in Dara-i-Suf Bala district of Samangan province since the collapse of the previous government in August 2021, our source detailed.

Despite the general amnesty declared by the Taliban’s supreme leader, Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, shortly after the group’s return to power, many former members of the Afghan security forces have been arrested, tortured, and killed in different provinces since then.
