Taliban accused of killing former Afghan army officer in Kabul

Sources in Kabul have confirmed that a former Afghan army officer was assassinated in the west of the city yesterday.

Eyewitnesses said two unidentified assailants shot the former Junior Captain, Hassan Reza Hazara, dead and left the scene.

A source close to his family said the Taliban’s intelligence agency, the General Directorate of Intelligence (GDI), is holding his body and his family are unaware of its location.

Another source accused the Taliban of killing Mr Hazara.

A Taliban spokesperson refused to comment.

The group has been widely accused of arrest, torture and extrajudicial killing of former members of Afghan security forces.
