Taliban publicly flog a woman and 5 men in Ghor province

Locals in the city of Firozkoh, the capital of the central province of Ghor, have confirmed to KabulNow that the Taliban publicly flogged 6 people, including a woman, at a sports stadium on Tuesday.

The 5 men and a woman were accused of “engaging in prohibited acts, moral corruption and drinking alcohol,” and were sentenced to 15 to 39 lashes.

According to Bakhtar News agency, controlled by the Taliban, the woman and a man were lashed 39 times for “moral corruption”, a man was lashed 25 times for winemaking, two men were lashed 39 times for drinking and another 15 times for the same crime.

Since returning to power in August 2021, the Taliban has made public floggings, usually carried in front a large crowd, a key part of its penal practice.
