Qatar envoy meets Taliban foreign minister in Kabul

Qatar foreign ministry envoy visited Kabul on Sunday and with met with the Taliban foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi the group’s foreign ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi said.

Balkhi said Mutlaq Bin Majed Al-Qahtani and Amir Khan Muttqai “In addition to topics of mutual interests, political cooperation, strengthening of relations and humanitarian aid were discussed in detail during the meeting.”

Qatar has been home to the Taliban’s political office for over a decade and hosted negotiations between the group and the US government, which was concluded in the Doha Deal. 

Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last month, the Qatari foreign minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said the Taliban’s restrictions on women and girls were “frustrating and disappointing.”
