Tehran to Host Quadrilateral Meeting on Afghan Refugees

A two-day quadrilateral meeting is set to be started in Tehran, the capital of Iran, in presence of representatives from Iran, Pakistan, the UN Refugee Agency, and Taliban authorities on Monday, December 12, according to the Taliban Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.

Abdul Rahman Rashid, a deputy for the Taliban Ministry, has already left Kabul to attend the meeting in Tehran.

The Taliban official said that he will encourage Afghan refugees to return to Afghanistan during his visit to Iran.

He added that addressing the problems of Afghan refugees in neighboring countries is a priority for the Taliban de facto authorities.

Afghanistan faced a huge exodus of its citizens after the previous government collapsed and the Taliban returned to power in August 2021. Iran and Pakistan are the end destination for most Afghan refugees.
