Taliban’s Ban on Girls’ Education; Saudi Arabia Astonished by Taliban’s Decision

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed the country’s astonishment and regret at the recent decision by the Taliban to ban university education for women in Afghanistan.

In a press release published last night, December 21, Saudi Arabia has called on the de facto Afghan caretaker government to reverse the decision, which is astonishing in all Islamic countries.

In the press release, the Ministry said that the recent Taliban’s decision is astonishing in all Islamic countries.  This country believes education is a legitimate right of women and has said that giving women access to this right helps to support the security, stability and prosperity of Afghanistan.

In an official letter sent to state and private universities, the Taliban Ministry of Higher Education has indefinitely banned higher education for female students. Higher education is “suspended” for female students until further notice, the letter reads.

This decision by the Taliban has drawn reactions inside and outside the country. The Us, Germany, The UK, the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Human Rights Watch and many more have condemned this decision.
