Local elder found dead in Ghor

Local Elder, Son Found Dead after Detention by Taliban

A local community elder and his son were found dead almost two months after they were arrested by the Taliban in the western Ghor province, local sources confirmed to Kabul Now.

A local source identified the local elder as Haji Ahmad Khan and his son as Sharafuddin, adding that their dead bodies were found on Sunday night, December 04, in Ferozkoh, the capital city of Ghor.

The source detailed that the victims were arrested by the Taliban around two months ago, but the Taliban had denied their arrest at the time.

The dead bodies of the victim have been transferred to Ghor provincial hospital.

According to the source, their bodies are supposed to be taken to the Alfarooq district and buried in their home district.

The motive behind their murder is not clear yet.

Local Taliban authorities have not commented regarding the incident.

Afghanistan has seen a dramatic rise in targeted killings and assassinations of local elders, religious scholars, and former security forces ever since the Taliban returned to power.

Though the Taliban are accused of most such arrests, tortures, and murders, the group has denied their involvement.
