Darwish Ahmad, chief of Counter-Terrorism Unit at Police Department of Injil district was shot dead by the Taliban, security sources confirmed.
A number of security officials, who spoke on anonymous condition, said the incident took place today morning, June 19, in Karokh district of Herat city.
Darwish Ahmad was abducted the day before on Friday, June 18, from Qala e Sharbat area of Karokh where he was gone for a picnic, the officials added.
The residents are concerned over rise of insecurity in Karokh district, eastern part of Herat province.
The Taliban has not yet commented on the incident.
Located in west part of the country, Herat is an insecure province, where the Taliban control swathes of territory including Oba district.
