At least three security guards, who were protecting Dahan Dara Dam in Pashtun Kut district of Faryab province, were killed and another three wounded after a Taliban-planted landmine exploded, a local official said, today, Saturday, May 08.
Abdul Karim Youresh, the spokesperson for Faryab police, said the incident took place today in Dahan Dara village of Pashtun Kut district.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack.
Yusuf Ahmadi, a spokesperson for the Taliban, claimed three police were killed and three others wounded in mine planted by the group.
Located in the northern part of Afghanistan, Faryab is a volatile province where the Taliban militants control swaths of areas including Pashtun Kut district.
In late March, the Taliban fighters attacked the dam and killed two people while construction was underway.
