Camp New Antonik handed over to Afghan Special Forces

Camp New Antonik, located in the southern Helmand province, was handed over to the Afghan security and defense forces, the Ministry of Defense (MoD) said yesterday, April 02.

Fawad Aman, the spokesperson for the MoD, said the camp was handed over in an official ceremony attended by American forces and senior Afghan commanders.

He said the Afghan Special Forces will be stationed in the camp under the same name.

On Monday, May 02, 2021, the US officially started a phased withdrawal that would be completed by September 11 this year.

The United States has around 2,500 troops in Afghanistan. Another 7,000 foreign forces are present in the country under the NATO mission.
