Afghan commandos freed 41 including 19 soldiers from Taliban custody in Herat

In a rescue operation, the Afghan elite forces freed 41 people including 19 army soldiers who were kept in a Taliban custody in Pashtun Zarghun district of Herat on May 24, local sources confirmed.

Jilani Farhad, the spokesperson for Herat governor, said a rescue operation was conducted by Afghan commandos on Mar Abad village of the district.

Seven Taliban militants were killed in the operation and a large number of ammunition were seized by the forces.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.

The eastern Pashtun Zarghun district of Herat is volatile.

On May 23, Afghan commandos rescued eight soldiers in Baghlan province.
