KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A 28-year-old man was stabbed to death by his cousin in Afghanistan’s eastern Khost province, amid a surge in reports of violent crime across the country, local sources said.
The incident took place late on Sunday, November 1, in the village of “Sahra Aka” in Gurbuz district. The victim was identified as Abdul Rahman, a pharmacy graduate, who was killed following a verbal argument with his cousin, according to sources in Khost.
The exact nature of the dispute and the motive for the killing remain unknown.
Local Taliban authorities have not commented on the incident.
The killing comes amid a recent rise in reports of violent crime across Afghanistan, including killings, armed robberies and targeted attacks. Similar incidents have been reported in several provinces in recent weeks.
The Taliban, who say they have restored security nationwide since returning to power in 2021, face criticism from some citizens, human rights groups and activists over their ability to protect civilians and their lack of transparency in investigating such crimes.
