KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Four members of a family, including three women and a child, were killed by gunmen in Afghanistan’s northeastern Kapisa province on Monday, local Taliban authorities said.
The incident took place at about 2 a.m. local time in Babarkhwaja village of Tagab district, according to Abdul Fatah Fayez, spokesperson for the Taliban police command in Kapisa.
Fayez said the victims were shot dead and attributed the incident to a “family dispute.” He did not provide further details about the nature of the dispute or identify the victims.
The suspected gunman fled the area after the shooting, Fayez said, adding that two people have been arrested in connection with the incident, while an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the killings and identify those responsible.
The incident comes amid a sharp rise in reports of mysterious killings and other violent crimes across Afghanistan in recent days. A day earlier, sources reported the killing of a doctor in Badghis province and three young men in Kabul, Farah and Khost provinces.
Since returning to power in 2021, the Taliban authorities have repeatedly said they have restored nationwide security. Residents, civil society activists and rights groups continue to express concern over the protection of civilians, citing the absence of independent investigations and limited accountability for those responsible for such attacks.
