KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and the Afghanistan United Front (AUF), two armed groups fighting the Taliban, have claimed four attacks on Taliban positions in four provinces on Thursday, as anti-Taliban groups step up operations across the country.
The AFF said in separate posts on X that its “freedom fighters” launched two attacks on Taliban positions in Kabul and Nangarhar provinces on Thursday evening.
The AFF said its fighters launched rocket attacks on the military section of Kabul airport, causing heavy damage and casualties. The group added that the exact number of casualties and the extent of the damage were not immediately known.
In a separate post, the AFF said its fighters attacked the Taliban intelligence headquarters in Police District 6 of Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, killing two Taliban fighters and wounding another.
Meanwhile, the Afghanistan United Front said its fighters carried out two attacks in Ghor and Badakhshan provinces overnight, killing three Taliban fighters and wounding eight others.
In Ghor province, the armed group said its fighters attacked a Taliban base in Al-Farooq district, killing two Taliban fighters and wounding four others. The group also claimed that one Taliban member was killed and four others wounded in a separate attack in the Argo district of Badakhshan province.
Taliban authorities have not responded to the reported attacks.
The latest reported attacks come as armed groups have intensified operations against the Taliban in recent weeks. Over the past week, the groups have claimed over 15 attacks in different parts of the country, saying the operations killed and wounded dozens of Taliban fighters, including commanders.
Earlier this month, a newly formed anti-Taliban group, Sepahian-e Mihan (Soldiers of the Homeland), said it had briefly seized control of Yaftal-e Payen district in Badakhshan, marking the first reported incident of its kind since the Taliban returned to power nearly five years ago. The Taliban confirmed the incident and deployed additional forces and expanded security operations in the area.
