KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan United Front says its forces carried out attacks against the Taliban in five provinces over the past 48 hours, claiming that 19 Taliban members were killed or wounded in the clashes.
In a statement published Friday night (August 7), the group said the attacks took place in Kandahar, Helmand, Ghor, Baghlan and Badakhshan provinces.
According to the statement, the group’s forces captured two Taliban military outposts during the operations and seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.
The Afghanistan United Front said its forces carried out two separate operations in the Band-e Timor area of Maywand district in Kandahar province. It claimed that a senior Taliban police officer was killed in one of the operations.
The group also said that its forces killed a Taliban member in the area under the jurisdiction of the 15th Security District of Kandahar city.
In Helmand province, the group said it conducted an operation in the Bar Nawzad area of Nawzad district over the past two nights, claiming that a Taliban commander was killed.
The United Front further claimed that its forces captured a Taliban outpost in the Gerdab area of Al-Farooq district in Ghor province, killing two Taliban members and wounding four others.
The statement added that the group’s forces captured a Taliban military outpost in Pul-e Hesar district of Baghlan province, where two Taliban members were allegedly killed and three others wounded.
The Afghanistan United Front also announced its first reported attack in Badakhshan, saying its forces killed one Taliban member and wounded four others in Argo district.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the claims made by the Afghanistan United Front.
Previously, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said that the group does not have an active presence inside Afghanistan.
The latest attacks come amid an increase in anti-Taliban armed activity across Afghanistan. Over the past week, these groups have claimed more than 15 attacks in various parts of the country, reporting that dozens of Taliban members, including commanders, were killed or wounded.
On Friday, the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) and the Afghanistan United Front (AUF) claimed four attacks on Taliban positions in Kabul, Nangarhar, Ghor and Badakhshan provinces. The AUF said its fighters carried out two overnight attacks in Ghor and Badakhshan, killing three Taliban members and wounding eight others. The AFF separately claimed two attacks on Taliban positions in Kabul and Nangarhar.
The Afghanistan United Front (AUF), led by former Afghan National Army commander Sami Sadat, was established as an anti-Taliban armed opposition group. On August 2, the group announced the launch of its first military campaign, dubbed “Operation Muharib,” saying its Military Commission would direct operations against the Taliban and other militant groups in Afghanistan. AUF said the campaign aims to support what it described as the liberation of Afghanistan and the restoration of power to the Afghan people.
Earlier this month, the newly formed anti-Taliban group Sepahian-e Mihan (Soldiers of the Homeland) claimed it had briefly taken control of Yaftal-e Payen district in Badakhshan. The incident was reportedly the first such seizure of a district since the Taliban returned to power nearly five years ago. The Taliban confirmed the brief loss of control and said it had deployed additional forces and expanded security operations in the area.
