Taxi Driver Found Dead in Southern Afghanistan Amid Rise in Mysterious Killings

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – A young man, reportedly a taxi driver, was found dead Tuesday in the Mianko area of Police District 12 in Kandahar City, local sources told KabulNow.

According to the sources, the man had been hired by a group of passengers on Monday for a trip to Khakrez district. His phone was turned off shortly after departure. His body was found the next day, and his car is still missing.

The motive behind the killing is still unclear. Taliban authorities in Kandahar have not commented on the incident.

The killing comes amid a rise in criminal violence and targeted killings across Afghanistan. Similar cases have been reported in several provinces in recent weeks.

As such incidents mount, many Afghans are expressing increasing concern over public safety and a deteriorating sense of security, despite Taliban claims of maintaining security since regaining power.

Rights groups and activists argue that the Taliban are neglecting their responsibility to ensure security and failing to conduct thorough investigations into such killings.
