Armed Opposition Group Claims Deadly Attacks on Taliban in Panjshir and Kunduz

KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), an armed opposition group, has reported that it killed and injured several Taliban members during recent attacks in Kunduz and Panjshir provinces.

In Kunduz, AFF claims its “freedom fighters” conducted a guerrilla-style operation at a Taliban checkpoint in District 4 of the provincial capital on Friday, resulting in the deaths of two Taliban members and injuries to another.

The group stated that Taliban fighters at the checkpoint had been harassing local residents in recent weeks.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, AFF reported that its fighters killed one Taliban member and injured two others during an attack on a Taliban stronghold in Anaba district of Panjshir province.

The Taliban has not yet commented on the attacks.

The AFF was formed following the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021 and is primarily composed of former members of the Afghan security forces. It is led by General Yasin Zia, who previously served as the chief of personnel of the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces (ANDSF).

The armed group says it has carried out more than 230 attacks against Taliban forces over the past two years, resulting in the deaths or injuries of around 1,300 Taliban fighters.
