KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – Local sources report that a former soldier was killed by unidentified assailants in the Shakardara district of Kabul.
According to the sources, the victim, identified as Hassan Jabar Khel, was killed on Sunday night (March 23). His body showed visible signs of torture.
Jabar Khel had been living in his village in Shakardara since the fall of the previous government and had no political or military affiliations, the sources added.
Taliban authorities have not yet commented on the killing.
Despite the Taliban’s announcement of a general amnesty following their return to power in August 2021, reports of arbitrary detentions, torture, and extrajudicial killings of former security personnel continue.
Human rights organizations have repeatedly condemned the Taliban for ongoing human rights violations, including the persecution of former government officials, security forces, and civilians.
