Western Kabul, a neighborhood mainly populated by Shia Hazaras, has been targeted in the past by the Islamic State group affiliate in the country, which has carried out major, horrific attacks on schools, hospitals, public transportation, mosques, gyms, and other social premises.
The group has also attacked other Shia areas of Afghanistan in recent years.
