KABUL, AFGHANISTAN – The National Resistance Front (NRF), an armed anti-Taliban group, claimed to have killed at least 12 Taliban members in six separate attacks over the past 24 hours.
In separate statements, the NRF claimed that over the past 24 hours, its “freedom fighters” carried out three operations in Kabul, two in Herat, and one in Baghlan provinces. These operations targeted Taliban checkpoints and vehicles, resulting in the deaths and injuries of at least 17 Taliban members.
According to the NRF statement, the latest attack took place around 9:20 PM on August 13 in the 16th security district of Kabul. NRF fighters targeted a Taliban military vehicle, killing 3 Taliban members and wounding 2 others.
“This marks the sixth operation by National Resistance Front of Afghanistan’s forces in the last 24 hours across the country and the third operation in Kabul city. Earlier, two operations were carried out in Herat, two in Kabul, and one in Baghlan province against enemy positions,” NRF said.
In Herat city, NRF fighters carried out two separate attacks on the evening of August 12: one targeting a Taliban vehicle in the Guzara district and the other targeting a Taliban checkpoint in the 12th security district. These attacks reportedly resulted in the deaths of five Taliban members and wounded one other.
The armed resistance group said that none of its forces were killed or injured during these operations.
Taliban officials have yet to comment on these attacks.
The NRF and the Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF), composed mainly of former security forces, have engaged in numerous clashes with the Taliban. Recently, they have intensified their guerrilla attacks against the Taliban throughout Afghanistan.
While the Taliban downplay the impact of these armed groups and their attacks, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres noted in a report released in June that these groups had carried out at least 43 verified attacks on Taliban forces over the past three months.
In its annual report released on March 19, the NRF claimed that during the solar year 1402 (March 21, 2023, to March 18, 2024), its fighters killed and injured more than 400 Taliban members.
The NRF reported that during this period, it conducted 150 guerrilla operations against the Taliban across 17 provinces of Afghanistan, resulting in the deaths of 194 members of the “Taliban terrorist group” and injuries to 210 others.
