UK appoints former Special Representative for Afghanistan as ambassador to Moscow

The UK government has appointed its former Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, Nigel Casey, ambassador to Russia.

In statement on Wednesday, the UK government said that Casey, whose assignment on Afghanistan ended in January, will take his post in November.

Casey was appointed as Special Representative for Afghanistan in May 2021.

In January 2022, Casey met the Taliban Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, in Oslo, Norway.

The UK has been one of the major supporter of Ukraine, which has severely impacted its relationship with Moscow.
