Afghanistan cricket team was whitewashed by Pakistan after it lost the final match of the Super Cola Cup one-day international (ODI) series in Colombo on Saturday.
Pakistan claimed a 3-0 series whitewash with a 59-run win against Afghanistan in the final match, thanks to the solid 79-ball 67 from Mohammad Rizwan and an 86-ball innings of 60 from skipper Babar Azam.
The win led Pakistan to top the ODI ranking ahead of the Asia Cup, which begins later this month, and the ODI World Cup, scheduled to be held in India in October-November.
Chasing a target of 269 runs, Afghanistan were dismissed for 209 runs in 48.4 overs.
Pakistan had already won the series 2-0 against Afghanistan in the last two matches—the first match by 142 runs and the second by one wicket.
Afghanistan skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi told AFP that his team was not up to the mark.
“We didn’t apply ourselves,” said Shahidi. “We are disappointed with the performance but there is a lot of learning.”
