Afghanistan runners-up at 2023 CAFA Futsal Cup, Iran wins

Afghanistan U-23 team finished second place in the 2023 CAFA Futsal Cup on Sunday after defeating Turkmenistan 3-2.

The Iran team won the title after defeating Tajikistan 1-0.

Iran lost to Turkmenistan in its opening match but won against Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan in its following matches.

The tournament was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan from July 23 to 30 and the winning team was determined by the number of points scored.

“Unfortunately we couldn’t overcome Iran so that we could become the champion,” Afghanistan’s Abdul Ghafar Safi, who was declared best player of the match against Turkmenistan, said.

“Runner-up is not a low position and I would like to congratulate the entire nation for securing the position.”
