Taliban detains Dr Abdullah’s bodyguard and his brother in Kabul

The Taliban has detained Malikmir Mohammadi, one of Dr Abdullah Abdullah’s bodyguards, and his brother in Kabul.

According to sources, the two men were members of the unit responsible for protecting officials in the previous government.

Mohammadi was arrested from their home in Kabul on Thursday, May 19. His brother had been detained four days prior.

One of Abdullah Abdullah’s other bodyguards was arrested last year.

The Taliban has been pursuing former members of Afghanistan’s security forces since returning to power, particularly those from Panjshir, where the anti-Taliban group the National Resistance Front (NRF) has been active. Human rights groups have accused the Taliban of committing war crimes in Panjshir.
