Senior Taliban commander among at least 14 dead in mosque explosion in Badakhshan

Sources in Badakhshan province have confirmed that at least 14 people, including a senior Taliban commander in the area, have been killed and more than 50 wounded in an explosion.

The explosion occurred inside a mosque in the provincial capital, Faizabad, where a memorial was being held for the group’s deputy provincial governor, Mahzdudin Ahmadi, who was killed in a car bomb on Tuesday.

According to sources, Safiullah Samim, a senior Taliban commander is among the dead. A source also said a former Jihadi commander, known as Haji Akram, and his brother were also killed.

No group or individuals have claimed responsibility for the explosion.

The Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP) claimed responsibility for the attack on Mahzdudin Ahmadi.
