National Resistance Council warns Taliban of military escalation if crimes persist

The Council of National Resistance for the Salvation of Afghanistan, has warned the Taliban to stop their crimes, or they will escalate militarily and expand resistance nationwide.

The council, comprised of former political leaders and politicians, asserted in a statement in Persian on Wednesday that since the Taliban’s ascension to power in August 2021, the country has been plunged into “one of the darkest chapters in its history.”

While the council acknowledged a preference for dialogue and negotiations, it clarified that they will not stand by if the Taliban continues its hostilities and bloodshed. “Should the group persist in its criminal conduct towards the people like the past two years, strengthening the military option and expanding resistance throughout the country is part of this council’s plans,” part of the statement reads.

Moreover, the council members regarded the Doha agreement between the United States and the Taliban as a “catalyst for the ongoing catastrophe”, stating they had previously stressed the imperative of revoking this agreement.

Calling for unity and solidarity, the Council expressed support for any Taliban opposition and urged all political currents to unite under a single umbrella for a broader struggle against the Taliban and to save the country from the current situation.

The Council has previously urged the United Nations to create favorable conditions for restoring democracy and the rule of law in Afghanistan.

Earlier, the National Resistance Front (NRF) also released a statement on Eid al-Adha calling the Taliban “non-changeable”, and urged political elites and groups to unite in their efforts to bring an end to Taliban rule.
