The Taliban’s deputy governor of Badakhshan province, Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi, has been killed in a car bomb attack in Faizabad city.
Mahzdudin Ahmadi, the Taliban’s head of Information and Culture in Badakshan, said that the explosion, believed to be a suicide attack, occurred at around 8:15 am local time on Tuesday, killing Nisar Ahmad Ahmadi and his driver, and wounding six others.
No individuals or group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
However, the Islamic State Khorasan (ISK) has claimed several major attacks against Taliban administration officials and members in the past, including the killing of the governor of the northern Balkh province in March.
In December last year, the Taliban police chief Abdulhaq Abu Omar was killed with two others in a car bomb attack near the regional police headquarters in Faizabad.
