Calm has returned to Afghanistan-Iran borders, Iranian Interior Minister says

Iranian Interior Minister, Ahmad Vahidi, has said that calm has returned to Iran’s borders with Afghanistan after weeks of tensions, culminating in deadly clashes in May.

According to ISNA, Vahidi said that border crossings between the two countries were operating as normal.

The Taliban, Vahidi said, had been advised and informed to “control their forces.” Adding that Iranian border guards were “resolute in defending our national interests”.

Iranian and Taliban border forces have clashed on multiple occasions since the group’s return to power.

In an interview with TOLOnews, the Taliban Defence Minister, Mullah Mohammad Yaqoob, accused Iran of shelling Afghanistan with artillery fire for four days in May before the group’s response.
