Farid Mamundzay, Afghanistan’s ambassador to India, has rejected the Taliban’s appointment of a new charge d’affaires to the embassy in New Delhi.
In a statement on Monday, Mamundzay accused the Taliban of spreading misinformation and running a “baseless” campaign to take over the embassy.
He said that the individual who claims to have been named chargé d’affaires by the Taliban has been responsible for spreading misinformation and running a baseless and unsubstantiated campaign against officials of the mission.
Mamundzay also thanked India for its “consistent position” for supporting the people of Afghanistan and not recognizing the Taliban regime.
The embassy has further indicated that it will continue with its normal day-to-day operations, addressing the interests of Afghan nationals in India.
The Taliban has not yet responded to Mamundzay’s statement.
