55-year-old man shot dead in Takhar as surge in murders continues across Afghanistan

Surge in murders across Afghanistan continues as a 55-year-old man, Mohammad Afzal, was shot dead by unknown assailants in Hazar Bagh village of Khwaja Ghar district in Takhar province.

The incident occurred on Saturday night. And a source told KabulNow that Afzal was killed at his brother’s home when unknown armed men opened fire at him.

Taliban’s local media head, Mobeen Safi, confirmed the murder and said that two people had been detained for investigation.

The motivation behind the killing is unknown.

Despite the Taliban’s claim of ensuring security, Afghanistan has witnessed a surge in the number of mysterious murders in recent months, with the group being accused of being behind most of the cases.

Over the last 48 hours, a clergyman was killed in Baghlan province, a former judge and clergyman was killed in Ghor province, and a former soldier was shot dead in Jabul Saraj on Sunday night.
